Police arrest pastor with human skull in Ogun


ABEOKUTA- A middle-aged man identified as Pastor Michael Oyewole was paraded along his accomplice, Matthew Akiode for being in possesion of a human skull allegedly exhumed  in a grave on a land  at Sabo in  Abeokuta North local government area of Ogun state on Tuesday.
The pastor, 32, who claimed to be a pastor at Ona-Ara mimo Cherubim and Sheraphim at Olomore few kilometres to the crime scene in Abeokuta was accused of inducing  Akiode of committing the crime.

Subsidy: Indicted oil marketers begin repayment, says Obi


Abuja— Some oil marketers, who were indicted for illegally collecting over N400 billion subsidy fund for fuel they did not import, have started refunding the money.
This is just as governors of the 36 states of the federation backed the Federal Government in its efforts to recover the subsidy claims from the marketers.
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, who disclosed the governors’ position at the end of the National Economic Council meeting, said the governors were excited that the Federal Government’s effort had started to yield result as some marketers had started to make refunds.

Glo to Falconets: Go for the trophy


Leading telecommunications company, Globacom has advised the NIgerian U-20 female National team, the Falconets to go out and win the trophy as the U-20 Female World Cup hots up in Japan.
Globacom in a press statement in Lagos congratulated the team on it’s deserved victory over Korea Republic and the draw against Brazil in their second match, urging them to concentrate and play cohesively in order to ensure constant victory as the competition progresses towards the next round.

CPC, MTN to meet over “recharge and win aircraft’’ promo


The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) is to meet with MTN over the latter’s recharge and win promotion.

PHCN: NLC commences solidarity strike next Wednesday


The Nigeria Labour Congress said it has concluded arrangements to call workers in the country out on industrial action as solidarity with workers of the Power holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, who it said, were being unfairly treated by Ministry of Power over their stand that the right things be done before the planned privatisation of the PHCN by the Federal Government.

LONDON (AFP) – Usain Bolt raced to a repeat in the Olympic 100m and told compatriot and training partner Yohan “The Beast” Blake to forget about an upset in the 200m.
The 25-year-old Bolt – world record holder in both the 100m and 200m – wants to retain the 200 title he won in Beijing, believing a second Olympic sprint double will seal his status as a Games legend.

UNIBEN tops Nigerian varsities ranking


Benin – The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities carried out in July has placed the University of Benin (UNIBEN) first in Nigeria and 31st in Africa.
The ranking was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Mr Harris Osarenre, and made available on Saturday in Benin.
The statement said that the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, came second while the University of Ibadan came third in the ranking.

LONDON (AFP) – Jamaica’s Usain Bolt sealed the legendary status he so craves after sprinting to a convincing victory in the men’s Olympic 100m to retain his title on Sunday.

The James Ibori Political Associates, have cancelled the 54th Birthday celebration of Chief James Onanefe Ibori earlier scheduled for Saturday, 4th August 2012.
The group in a statement Friday  signed by its secretary, Olorogun Jaro Egbo said; “we regret to announce the cancellation of all activities planned to mark the 54th birthday anniversary of James Onanefe Ibori due to circumstances beyond our control.

“We appeal to all our invited guests that the decision to cancel the event is as result of the sad loss of our national leader’s brother who died after a brief illness”.
“Our Prayers and indeed that of all well meaning Deltans are with the Ibori family at this period. We enjoined all Deltans and indeed Nigerians to continue to pray to God to strengthen our leader, Chief James Ibori as he matches through this difficult phase of his life.
