Buhari: Is The Honeymoon Still On? By Ogundana Michael Rotimi

In spite of the failing campaign promises, after over 50% into the administration and 104 days in London on a medication vacation for an undisclosed illness, Muhammadu Buhari, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, returned to the country where he has been since 7th May 2017, to a rosy reception.
That was the fourth time President Buhari had embarked on vacation and transferred power to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, his Vice, since the two leaders were inaugurated on 29th May 2015. The first was in 5th February 2016, when the President embarked on a five-day vacation; the second was in 6th June 2016, when President Buhari travelled to the United Kingdom for treatment of what the Presidency described as ear infection; the third was in 19th January 2017, when he went for another medical vacation to London for what his office described as a "routine medical check-ups."
However, as usual, and expected, his return was not without a jamboree, funfair and celebration as citizens- well-wishers, politicians, family and friends came out against all odds to welcome him back home with so much joy and happiness. It was a moment of relief and sign of hope for Nigerians that have long awaited the return of President Buhari.

Dear President Buhari, For The Love Of Yourself And Country, Please Resign. By Ogundana Michael Rotimi.

Your Excellency Sir,
First and foremost, congratulations to you, the Chibok community, and to all well-meaning Nigerians on the successful release of additional 82 #ChibokGirls from the hands of their abductor, Boko Haram. At least, at this point, no one can genuinely fault your commitment to securing the release of the girls and reuniting them with their loved ones. It is a huge success for the country and for your administration.
Meanwhile, early this year, precisely 19th January 2017, you travelled out of the country to the United Kingdom in what your handlers called a 10-day vacation to have some rest. However, you ended up staying in London for about two months, during which several political leaders visited you and gave us the assurance that you were “Hale and Hearty”, “Fit as Fiddle” and that you were only resting.
Unfortunately, it turns out that you were really sick as you hinted during a short address to the nation when you returned. You admitted that he had never been this “sick” in your entire life and further revealed that you had a “blood transfusion” in the course of your treatment in the United Kingdom. This shows the gravity of your illness.

President Buhari Is Not Fighting Corruption, He`s Only Looking For Money! By Ogundana Michael Rotim

A purportedly incorruptible President will not appoint and keep an allegedly corruptible Secretary General to the Federation on his team and pretend like all is well- forget about the Kangaroo investigation by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). Well, that`s a discussion for another time.
It is on record that fighting corruption- a serious endemic that has left our nation battered and shattered, was one of the primary reasons why President Buhari was elected, asides for battling the Boko Haram Insurgency.
However, events unfolding since President Buhari came on board after the general elections in 2015, (that saw the incumbent president- Dr Goodluck Jonathan, voted out of office), confirm that as against expectations, President Buhari is not fighting corruption, but more keen on getting money to fund his campaign promises through loot recovery and that is exactly what he has been doing.
Nigeria, since independence have suffered from a total breakdown of law and order in the hands of its leaders, who technically legitimized corruption- squandered and laundered its resources and left its citizenry to the mercy of aids. However, with high hopes and aspirations President Buhari was elected to do the needful- to clean up the system, go after looters, prosecute them and in the process recover the loot and make them pay severely for their unlawful actions.

Nigeria: Strong Individuals, Weak Institutions And A Broken Society. By Ogundana Michael Rotimi.

Last Saturday, we woke up to the news that Audu Maikori, the CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, was arrested in Lagos; by a team of policemen attached to the Inspector-General Monitoring And Intelligence Team and was immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. His arrest, however, was not disconnected from the series of posts and comments he shared on his social media pages about the Southern Kaduna massacre. The information turned out to be untrue, prompting a retraction and apology from him to the general public.
Well, the piece of today is neither about Audu Maikori nor about his actions, but about the scenarios surrounding his arrest and release. It is about our institutions!
I am a strong proponent of strong institutions as being key to our development and sustainability. Pathetically, we are a nation of strong and powerful individuals with weak and fragile institutions in a broken society.
